Review of Sisters (2015) by Orlando O — 14 Apr 2016

Sisters seems like the perfect match up for two best friends actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to play sisters in this comedy film. Tina Fey playing the irresponsible, party girl and Amy Poehler playing the positive attitude, awkward nice girl. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are both likable actresses and they can be funny at times, especially when they are working together in a movie. Sisters is a fair comedy film, it does have its share of laughs with some pants dropping humor and so on. There is not much of a plot wise, and even when the film tries to have that meaningful story of two sisters trying to reconnect for the better, it still does not make it memorable.

The plot follows Maura (Amy Poehler), who is every day nice girl with a positive perspective on everything. She even tries to socialize who she assumed a homeless person sitting in front of a store and giving him sunscreen lotion without realizing he was waiting for somebody. She finds out her parents are selling there childhood home. She is suppose to visit and pack up her belongings stored in there old bedrooms. Maura tries to contact her irresponsible sister Kate (Tina Fey) to tag along to help pack her stuff and visit there home one last time. Kate is the opposite of Maura, who is disorganized, has trouble keeping a job, and a place. And she has a teenage daughter, who is more responsible and has logical reasoning on whats important. Maura and Kate visit there childhood home, while having nostalgic memories of the wild parties they used to throw. They both decide to throw one last party for every one of their high school friends, who are all grown and old and having a miserable life to have one more great night.

Sisters does have some raunchy humor that gives its fair amount of laughs. But that is usually about it with the film, there is barely a plot. It does have some characterization of two sisters needing each other more, than being distant. Once the party starts, it rises with some destruction in the house, and getting out of control, which is fun to watch. To see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler bicker at each other throughout the film cannot be done better without them.
