Review of Sisters (1973) by Simon T — 08 Jan 2016
Typical early De Palma: ludicrous premise, perfunctory performances, flashy effects. The story doesn't bear any scrutiny: separated Siamese twins plotting murder and cover-up. The great Bernard Herrmann obviously realises he's been hired to paper over the cracks, so phones in one of his weakest scores.
By the end you get the feeling De Palma is making it up as he goes along and just trying to use up celluloid.
