Review of Singles (1992) by Jamie J — 16 Oct 2010
Apparently Kurt Cobain hated this movie. I however did not, initial scepticism aside I actually enjoyed this foray into the early nineties grunge scene, that has added romantic sub plots. Ok so it may be the other way around, the movie however is actually rather well done, with convincing acting. There are also interesting snippets of characters breaking the fourth dimension and actually talking to the audience, which I found rather novel. Also worth a note is the sheer amount of cameos from bands of the time, pretty much every major grunge band bar Nirvana appear at some point.
Yes parts are a little bit cheesy, but a great sense of humour, and the sheer nostalgia value help raise Singles above more modern comedies of this type, which seem to rely on bables "crowning" and whatnot.
Certainly one to check out if you get the chance.
