Robert Rodriguez has given us some memorable films and same very badass ones. He has had some misses of course but most of them have come out in recent years. With the first Sin City, he recreated a world from a comic book and made it real. It was film noir and bloody action rolled into eye candy cinematography, with the sequel/prequel, it's not.

When Sin City was released it was a hit. Critics loved it and so did movie goers. We wanted more soon. We didn't get more but we got rumors that never happened and Spy Kids 4. Somewhere in between this one and the first his style not only changed but became a permanent grind house, cartoonish look. While that works for what he and Tarantino did for Grindhouse back in 2007, it doesn't work for everything (minus the Machete flicks which it works great for). Even Spy Kids 4 was very weak because the first two were fun and exciting.

This new Sin City looked like an indie horror game that you would find online. The sets were pixelated and weird, there was large spaces that made no sense as to why and very empty. Even during action scenes there was still a lot of empty space that was not being used and was hard on the eyes. Speaking of the action parts, talk about horribly shot and choreographed. There was little to none of style to what was happening.

The story was intriguing but was a little hard to follow given that not much is looked back on and some missing actors (RIP Clark Duncan and Murphey) for characters that you have to figure who or how or even what. The acting was probably the best part of it.

Overall, it is a very disappointing film that I rally did try to find something that I liked in it but I couldn't. I would say watch it ince and forget about it. It's sad to say but honesty is what I do.
