Review of Sin City (2005) by Ryan H — 08 Nov 2017
Movie adaptations of novels, graphic or otherwise, can be a mixed bag. If you've ever wanted to see what a film looks like that is practically an EXACT translation of its source material, for better or worse, look no further.
Having never read any of the Sin City graphic novels, I only have the film to get my impression from: it's visually daring, very bold and consistently entertaining. It's a moving, talking, bleeding comic strip. It's a noir film on steroids. It's got dames, guns and guts. Throw in some steak and cheese nips and you've got yourself a manly wet dream.
It dares to be what it is; challenging film conventions, being shot almost 100% against green screens, and delivering something that had never been seen at the movies before it was released. It's a commendable and exciting film.
