Great film. The effects and ship model are wonderful for a 1972 film. The DVD has great extras about how they made this film that are also very interesting. There are actually a lot of great sci-fi components tucked inside this story about "ecological neglect.
" The drones and the actors inside them was a great idea by Trumbull and his special effects crew. Although this film is somewhat sad, Dern's character and his ideals have an uplifting message.
The means by which he takes over creates the ultimate conflict in this film.
