Review of Silent Hill (2006) by Jarrett M — 19 Nov 2011
Silent Hill is way too long for a horror film--an hour and forty minutes should be the max unless you are truly a masterpiece like Kubrick's The Shining or Wise's The Haunting. As suspected, Silent Hill starts to drag by the two-hour mark.
But, other than that, it is a stylish, dark, and twisted piece of cinema that leaves the viewer with indelibly nightmarish visions. A well-crafted, dark, and disturbing piece of cinema, Silent Hill is dragged down by its attempt to overly develop its plot.
A leaner version of the film could have stitched the moments of genuine horror together into a truly unforgettable tapestry.
