Review of Sicko (2007) by Ira L — 24 Mar 2010
If Bowling for Columbine was excellent, Sicko is simply slightly better. The reason why the Oscar didn't go Moore's way this time was simply because of his previous Oscar speech in 2002, attacking George W. Bush publicly on live television. That's a shame he went oscarless because this is one of the best documentaries ever made.
Michael Moore hit the Americans where they struggle the most, insurances and healthcare. The Bowling for Colombine subject was very strong, but here it's even more intense, especially when comparisons arose to european countries, Canada and even Cuba, that all provides free governmental healthcare for all their citizen, something which is unfortunately not provided in the United States. The documentary is strong and shocking, and will move any individual who ever had a strong illness in his family, because he'd simply understand how grave and important that matter is.
