Review of Sicario (2015) by Dann M — 02 Mar 2016
Daring and provocative, Sicario is a gritty political thriller about drug trafficking. The story follows an FBI agent who joins a joint task force to go after a Mexican drug cartel, but their unconventional methods and tactics soon leads the agent to doubt the mission and shakes her believe in the system.
Starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin, the film has an impressive cast that delivers some excellent performances. And the director brings a lot of intensity and suspense to the scenes.
The film also does a good job at exploring the moral ambiguities and complexities of the war on drugs; however there is a bit of a political agenda at play. Additionally, there are some weaknesses in the plot and some underdeveloped characters.
Yet while it has a few problems, Sicario, is a dark and edgy film that's quite challenging.
