Review of Shrooms (2007) by Dave W — 11 Dec 2009
Would have rathered of done Shrooms myself rather than have sat through this predictable affair. Shrooms tries to be visually creative but winds up in the bargain bin of mediocrity. I did however laugh wholeheartedly at the scene with the talking cow as it was some funny ass shit and the ending was ok if your didn't already predict it within the films first half.
Acting is sloppy and what you would expect from a slasher film. If it wasn't for the lousy direction and poorly written script, this film might have had a chance as the idea isn't an interesting one.
Although you can predict what is going to happen early on, with decent direction Shrooms could have had you asking whether these young students were tripping on shrooms or if there was actually a slasher running around the woods killing off everyone.
The device of using the mushrooms and the hynotic effects they induce in the students could have provided the backdrop for what could have been a decently woven mystery. Instead this idea is wasted and you will have figured out the end long before the film is finished.
There was no guess work with this film and that is what truly brings it down. It's all about the cow man.
