Review of Short Cuts (1993) by Chris M — 04 Sep 2011
I remember seeing this back when it was released on VHS because I thought it was the right thing to do. I don't think my 14 year old self was ready yet to look deeper into a film and find the nuances that are present.
After reading Altman's biography I was interested in taking another look at his library and this was the first on my list. For a 3 hour movie it's jam packed with interesting characters that behave and converse like real people.
Altman didn't like tying things up in a neat bow and that's ever present here. Performance wise its sorta all over the map. Lyle Lovett is god-awful while people like Madeline Stowe (where is she by the way?) shine.
