Review of Shoot 'Em Up (2007) by Ryan G — 09 Mar 2014
This is an utterly ridiculous action-comedy that starts with a lot of gunfire and a premise that makes no common sense. A man by the name of Smith (Owen) is sitting at a bus stop, eating carrots, when a group of armed men chase down and attempt to kill a pregnant woman.
Smith, suddenly thrust into the middle of the gunfire, starts shooting at the men to protect the woman. In the middle of it all, she goes into labour. Smith delivers the baby, but the men shoot the mother, so Smith becomes responsible for protecting the child.
At no point in the movie do we ever find out why Smith involved himself in the first place, who he actually is or how this carrot munching guy has learned to become so adept at handling a gun. On the upside, the film looks pretty cool; there are plenty of laughs and the storyline becomes a bit meatier halfway through.
