Review of Shoot 'Em Up (2007) by Hawk _ — 14 Dec 2014
Clearly inpired by Looney Tunes cartoons, Shoot 'Em Up is a fairly fun ride, however the plotline leaves much to be desired. Let's be clear hear: Despite what you may of heard Shoot 'Em Up is not one long 86 minute gun fight,, that probably would of been better than what we have here as the movie truly falters when it comes to the slower portions. The Movie wants to have it both ways, creating a madcap action movie while having an intricate storyline but the movie simply doesn't. have the chops needed for the latter.
It may sound like I'm being overly harsh with this movie, but I'm trying not to be. The movie is fantasticly fun, and if it only consisted of action sequences it could be something really special. The action sequences are unique and inventive. Special attention should be given to the skydiving action sequence which may be one of the most ludicrous uses of green screen I've ever seen. Adding to the absurdity is a seemingly out of place and bizarre gun control aesop. Clearly the moviemakers know how to keep us guessing.
