Review of Shock Corridor (1963) by Private U — 09 Nov 2007
Getting back to the witnesses, I found some of their rational thoughts really poignant and the contrasts between their sane and insane personalities was masterful. In these characters, Fuller throws in critiques and comments on (then) America, including bigotry, racism, and the arms race.
It was a good film but the great scenes just couldn't overshadow a dubious story (I didn't even really know why Johnny wanted to get into the mental hospital until 20 or 30 minutes in). The color dream sequences were also pretty awesome.
