This is not your Jackie Chan action movie you are familiar with. The Shinjuku Incident is Jackie Chan in a dramatic role. Its plot is reminiscent of Scarface and Infernal Affairs and its bloody story deals with real world immigration issues.
Some comedic actors are eager to break free of their typecast; some succeed and some do not. After this film, I believe Jackie can carry a dramatic movie, even though I have unshakable love for his comedic action hero persona.
This film is a solid foreign thriller and could be seen by Jackie's fans (or non fans) who want to see him actually act and not just fight.
