Review of She's Gotta Have It (1986) by Bill B — 23 Apr 2017
This was one of those Spike Lee films that I only caught a single time back in the VHS days, so I was pleased to finally give it a revisit and see what my more modern impressions were of it, since it'd been at least 20 years since I had watched it.
The film is arty and beautiful to look at, though the ultimate message of the female lead being punished for her independence (both sexual and just as a free spirit) felt a bit harsher than it likely did way back inthe '80s, which I suppose is a sign of the times and how we've developed as a society, or at least I sincerely HOPE we've developed as a society.
Well worth a look, give it a rental.
