Review of Sherrybaby (2006) by Matt E — 05 Sep 2007
Sherrybaby is one of those worthy indie flicks that comes along that is slow, and meaningful and rather dull, except for a central performance. That performance is from Maggie Gyllenhaal, who, if there is any justice in the world, should get an Oscar nod for this powerhouse of a performance as an ex con trying to cope with the outside world and reconnecting with her daughter.
She is the only reason this film works, and without her intense, moving portrayal, the film would have suffered. Worthy of three stars just for her alone.
