Review of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) by Ron R — 01 Mar 2013
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law continue to do fantastic work as the two leading men, and newcomer Noomi Rapace definitely holds her own in replacing Rachel McAdams as the leading woman of the film; however, I felt this was inferior to its predecessor.
While I certainly enjoyed the slow-mo and various CGI effects in this, I would have much preferred to see more attention go to the mystery at hand instead of the action. Regardless, I still had plenty of fun with this and can easily say that this was a worthy sequel, even if it didn't reach the heights of the first.
A Game of Shadows certainly has plenty of mystery and suspense, but not nearly the amount it should - rather, it focuses much of that attention on making the film a thrill ride. Bad? It will certainly off put some - including me, a little - but it won't hinder this from being an entertaining, sometimes even hilarious, popcorn flick.
