Review of She-Devil (1989) by Allan C — 08 Oct 2015
Director Susan Seidelman had a string of excellent quirky comedies under her belt with "Desperately Seeking Susan," "Making Mr. Right" and "Cookie" before she made this dull comedy, which may have sadly ended her career.
I looked at her IMDB page and she's still working but hasn't had a major film since this film. "She-Devil" isn't a terrible film, but it's not a particularly engaging one. Roseanne Barr plays a ordinary housewife who's husband, Ed Begley Jr.
, leaves her for the glamorous romance novelist played by Meryl Streep. Streep hasn't done many comedies, but when she does she's awfully good and she very nearly saves this film. However, this film is mostly just a dull snooze.
