Review of Shanghai Kiss (2007) by Peter D — 08 Sep 2007
If this movie had taken place in any other city , it wouldn't have even watched it. But seeing it's was about Shanghai, I had to see how it would turn out. At the beginning of the movie, you think this is a love story about boy meets girl, boy leaves girl to go to shanghai, boy meets girl in shanghai, boy realizes that the girl back home is what he wants.
However, the bigger love story is about the city of shanghai. Seeing all the locales, hear the Shanghai dialect, seeing all the sights, really brought back memories. I mean it's really hard to dislike a movie that's basically a love story made about the places you grew up in.
Another reason this movie scored so high is because there are so many similarities between me and Liam, the main character. While watching the movie and counting how many places i've been to that are featured in this movie I realized that this film is closest thing anyone will ever see to a biopic about me.
Yes, if anyone ever wanted to see a movie about my life, this is probably the closest thing ever. So if you know me pretty well, and you watch this movie, the pieces will fall into place. And by the way, Hayden Panettiere is absolutely wonderful as an effervescent high school girl.
