Review of Shanghai Kiss (2007) by Death W — 18 Jan 2010
Blimey hell, this is pretty accurate to telling the truth on how I feel and describes when I encounter fobs, haha, the funny thing is that I was told the same thing that byron mann told ken leung, I am not chinese, I will never be chinese, I was raised on cheesburgers and pizza" end quote, its funny though, because there are two or four aspects that go into this.
The fobs, arue that the american chinese people arent chinese, and that we know nothing of the culture when the american chinese are pouring money into the rebuilding of chinese society. So in term, bruce lee one of the greatest action stars of all time argued that he was american, but white people said he was chinese and an american citizen but not american, so where do we lie? we are abandoned on both sides.
Then thers the side of ancestry, haha you mofos, I can trace my lineage to the three kingdoms, so all you motha fuckin fobs can go suck it, so in term on the third side is where I come in, yes im an american citezen I went to public school and had a shitty education, I was raised on ninja turtles and power rangers, as opposed to farming land and a bunch of bound feet and match maker.
And here is the fourth side, I am still chinese culturely but mostly american, the chinese part of me, I use chopstiks, practice martial arts, bike to school, and yet the point of action is that through generations I still think like a chinese person although I want like an american.
For example I believe in romance, but my chinese abiilyt is to think logically and decipher who or what is there inside. This movie does depict those things, and even has a white girl. Its funny though because there was a conversation in the movie I had with a friend, and its in there.
