Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Howard J — 02 Sep 2009
When this movie first came out and I was 16, I thought it was so clever how the story of Romeo & Juliet paralleled the love story involving Shakespeare. Watching it again at 26, I kept thinking, if I have to hear another hokey reference to a Shakespeare play, I'm going to throw both volumes of my Complete Works of William Shakespeare through my $1000 TV and not even feel bad about it! I can just imagine the screenwriters sitting around in a doily-filled living room, drinking tea, listening to Josh Groban albums, and chuckling about how punny they are.
Seriously, this movie makes me want to be all Titus Andronicus to these people's Chiron and Demetrius.
