Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Franco G — 20 Jan 2010
Okay, so the plot's a little cheesy... high society woman dreams of being a part of the theater scene she loves so much that she cross-dresses her way into a play and into the arms of William Shakespeare. The script is wonderful. Judy Dench shines (as always), and the two main characters are utterly believable in their portrayal of lovers who are at odds with time, society, and well, just about every other external force.
I've got to applaud the ending above all though. (Spoiler alert.) To see a love story end without all the loose ends tied up and everyone living happily ever after was refreshing to say the least.
