Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Eug K — 26 May 2008
This film is shear genius, playing upon a childhood suspicion I had when I first glimpsed Nosferatu in the music video for Queen's song "Under Pressure." That short clip from the silent film is truly haunting even today, I remember thinking to myself "Dude, that is too realistic for such an old film!" Dafoe and Malkovich are spot on, if they had just added Christopher Walken to the cast (who incidentally played a villain named "Max Schrek" in Batman Returns after the real actor) they could've had a Trinity of Creepiness! I noticed recently while watching it again on cable that one of the producers was Nicholas Cage, yes that Nicolas Cage, who happened to play a character who thought he was turning into a vampire called "Vampire's Kiss" (1989).
