Review of Shadow of a Doubt (1943) by Ryan Gibbons — 21 Oct 2010
Alfred Hitchcock's favorite film is not my favorite film. However like most of his movies, it certainly is great, especially because of Joseph Cotten who was a great underrated actor and is someone I've admired for quite some time now.
It's a good story, it does not lose itself and it's pretty straightforward. It has the classic Hitchcock feel with the tension and the suspense and mystery. I find it hard to call anything but Rear Window his finest work, that was his masterpiece along with The 39 Steps, those are the two that I will always remember one of the greatest directors of all time for.
