Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Viktor Z — 13 Oct 2010
A classic Japanese epic and what is to be considered the pinnacle of Japanese cinema. The story revolves around a small village on the verge of being attacked by a group of bandits but they decide that they will no longer endure the humiliation and suffering brought on by the bandits, so they decide to hire samurai.
Having little more to offer than a bowls of rice in return for their services, the peasants manage to gather a small ragtag group of skilled and honorable samurai. The movie magnificently makes every character human and every shot beautifully dynamic even by today's standards.
In conclusion a masterful film which will have you enthralled throughout the lengthy three hour runtime.
