Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Wagner N — 14 Jan 2011
You won't see Japanese culture, tradition and acting better than in this film. A film that stretches a long time and has one of the best battle sequences in Asian film history. The cast is superb especially Toshiro Mifune as the seventh, spirited and most human samurai out of the whole seven.
Its a superb piece of work as it tells a story under the direction of Akira Kurosawa of a story of inhumane ways and when times were tough back then for a village and its people under opression from bandits, and their only hope was to find 7 Samurai who could save them.
But to do it these samurai would have to be more than just good with a sword, their yearning to help a village that could only offer so little. The film goes for 4 long weary hours so take your time with it and wait for the finale at the end for its worth it.
I give this film four stars quite honestly because its a beautifully directed piece of work and it couldn't be done any other way.
