Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Lee Anne W — 18 Oct 2013
I know, I know: I should be embarrassed that I'd never seen this until now, especially since I watched The Magnificent Seven years ago. It also seems to be stating the obvious when I say this is a really, really good movie.
So if you haven't seen it, take my advice. Yes, it's 3 and a half hours long, and has a really slow build, but the cumulative effect and the payoff are worth it. Toshiro Mifune has sex appeal and star power coming out of his pores as the horny, drunken, wild man samurai (template for every rule-breaking hot shot cop in a million movies since), and his naked bottom is featured prominently for the whole last hour.
I think I will watch this again and again. I could see stumbling across it at any time in the airing, and watching until the end.
