Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Brian G — 23 Nov 2013
At well over three hours long, this is a marathon, but what you get in return is impeccable characterisation, brilliant action and a great story. Within the general plot of a village hiring samurai to defend them against bandits, run several smaller sub-plots - the kind of thing you see only over a TV series.
Each one of these sub-plots is intriguing enough, but ultimately it culminates in the defence of the village. A further note, Toshiro Mifune must be one of the greatest action movie stars of all time, except, I think he would have been just as lethal in real life as on the screen.
