Review of Seven Chances (1925) by A R — 04 Sep 2007
Like other weaker Keaton films, this suffers from a rather silly plot and weak, wealthy male protagonist. Much of the basis for the humor in the first half is too verbal, without the absurd and even dark stroke of his better films.
The second half, however, makes up for the weakness of the first half, as scores of wannabe brides chase him down through the city. The film's reputation is furthered for a great sequence where Buster is being chased down by boulders.
It becomes pure Buster, and thus more interesting than the initial premise. For this reason alone, it's worth watching.
