Review of Serpico (1973) by Christopher S — 24 May 2010
A young Al Pacino, before he became a caricature of himself where he screams and yells his lines more than anyone, was excellent as Frank Serpico. While snitching is not a good thing, police corruption is even worse.
Sidney Lumet captured the essence of Serpico's idealism and dilemma very well in the 1960s New York City background. This rivals any Woody Allen film in terms of capturing NYC for what it is. What I do not get is why Mayor John Lindsay's name never came up in the film.
Still, solid acting by all and one of the best police -themed films I have ever seen.
