Review of Serpico (1973) by Kenny K — 26 Aug 2009
Hard-hitting, surprisingly durable film about a cop (Al Pacino) who bucks the corrupt NYC police system by refusing -- openly -- to take graft. He is ignored by his superiors, threatened by his cohorts, and eventually placed in a position where he is shot by a drug dealer while fellow plainclothesmen stand by, doing nothing.
Well-directed by Sidney Lumet, whose films include "Dog Day Afternoon" (also starring Pacino), the remarkable and compelling "12 Angry Men," and the greatest film of Paul Newman's long career: "The Verdict.".
