Review of Serpico (1973) by Mark P — 22 Dec 2009
Excellent early Pacino. The film itself is episodic and kinda glosses over a lot of the situation. Of course, that's to be expected. It's a life in 2 hours.
However, be aware, this is vintage, early 70's, chew the scenery, method acting, and at points I found myself wondering why he was yelling so much. Of course, that's part of why we love Pacino, and it's what he almost parodies in himself now.
The performance doesn't ring false, but it is very much a product of it's time. I happen to like that sort of performance, it goes hand-in-hand wioth my love of Mamet.
Good stuff.
