Review of Serpico (1973) by Scott R — 01 Feb 2018
Watching this 1973 film in 2014 made it a great period piece of the city I grew up in. It starts at Greenpoint Hospital, which is the hospital I was born in in 1973. That made it personally interesting for me, especially since that hospital no longer exists.
It was a great story of an honest man in a dishonest system wanting to right the many wrongs all around him while being persecuted by those he is supposed to be able to trust. It would take a highly individualistic person with a warrior spirit willing to sacrifice a great deal, which is exactly what the character study portrays. He goes through an ordeal by taking a stand and loses much in this battle against a system that is supposed to have his back.
Really well done!
