Review of Serpico (1973) by Jonathan M — 10 Jan 2011
"Serpico" is always going to be a winning biography because its character is a man championing honesty when he's surrounded by corruption -- the ultimate good triumphing over evil, even if the main character doesn't come out unscathed.
Throughout the film we wonder what decisions we would make if were were cops trying to do the right thing but also looking out for our necks. Pacino drives us to these revelations with his pension for the melodramatic -- nobody can shout and still command a scene like Al.
Another gem from Sidney Lumet in spite of an average script.
