Serpico is a young man who sees his dream come true when he became a cop. However, after he finds out and is disgusted by police corruption his practically single handed rise up against him wins him the hate and hostility of his similar.

This is the story of a man and his rise against institutions. Another great collaboration between Lumet and Pacino, and once again a great and gripping one that moves at a fast and exciting pace with a gritty feel that gives it depth of realism and an approach that doesn't spare us of the darkest sides of the affair.

Pacino's performance is amazing. A tough part to play, he carries a heavy load on his shoulder in playing the story, which is based on true events and a real man, whi great class, intensity and respect.

Some may find its fast pace gets a little overwhelming occasionally, yet there is a lot to admire in the film that doesn't sugarcoat its subject and doesn't present in it a patriotic or patriarchal way - which is where an incredible amount of similar American films pitfall.
