Review of Serial Mom (1994) by Jake A — 10 Apr 2013
While I found Kathleen Turner to be quite good here, I felt the film went from okay to stupid to flat out dumb. Like had her character been in a more serious film, it could have been something golden, but they cheese it up and it just didn't work for me.
The family really made no sense, as they go from clueless to knowing she's a killer and fearing her to hawking her when she goes to court, etc etc. Like the son, Matthew Lillard, loses his best friend and he doesn't even care? The daughter is out making money off her murdering mother?
I get what the film was trying to say with America's love for mass murderers, but the film needed to be more serious, not as corny as it ended up being.
