Review of Serenity (2015) by Brayden T — 22 May 2013
A fitting, but albeit sad, conclusion to the sci-fi western series. The film, like the show, does an amazing job with character interaction and dialogue. Even some of the least likable characters in this cast are made likable through great situations and lines.
The atmosphere in this movie is varied and at times feels like it changes too rapidly, but that isn't a criticism, only a speculation as to the pacing of the film, which is fitting considering we are talking about smugglers.
The Reavers are executed in a way I thoroughly enjoyed, as you never get a clear view of them. They are always covered by shadows or blurred from their frantic movements, and this works to a great advantage in mood and eeriness.
The story is extremely clever and fun, filled with great action, lovable characters, and haunting scenes concerning Reavers and humans' darker side. If you like sci-fi in general, check this out or you are stupid.
