Review of Secrets & Lies (1996) by Valerie M — 26 Apr 2010
Very interesting film. Brenda Blethyn gives a fantastic performance, and it's refreshing to see Timothy Spall in a straight role, where he's wonderfully subtle, rather than his character roles in which he's self-consciously over-the-top.
The scene in the restaurant between Hortense and Cynthia is extraordinary, done in one take. The film unfolds in a very natural, wonderful way, as most of the dialogue was improvised. Pretty good movie.
