Review of Secret Window (2004) by Movie K — 26 Jun 2011

It is harder to score with a suspense thriller. This one is just average. Nothing too intense, nothing much of the genre. Movie begin with Johnny Depp taking a room key from the motel and then barge into the room, a couple was awaken.

Then flash to 6 months later, he is sleeping in his cabin. John Turturro knock his door and accuse him of stealing his story. ohnny deny and John left, leaving his script. Johnny throw it away. Then his cleaner thinking it was his, pick it up.

He read one page and discover it is the same as a book he wrote years before. He call his ex wife Maria Bello and ask if he is been influence by anyone at that time. The next day out walking he bump into John.

Johnny wrote the story in 1995 whereas John wrote in 1997. He want to have prove. The only way to prove is the story is publish in a magazine. It is with Maria. But he doesn't want to call her. Johnny was napping when he awaken, his pet dog is dead.

He report the incident to local sheriff and his friend Charles S.Dutton. Last time Johnny also had a problem with a fan but use money to settle it. He went out for a puff and John appear. A neighbor drive by and wave.

John want Johnny to change the ending, publish it again and have his own name credited. Later, Maria call and inform their house is burnt down. Charles question the neighbor who at first says he see him then later change.

He tell Johnny to meet him tomorrow and force the neighbor to say the real thing. Johnny oversleep and the hat John wear is at his door. He went to the meeting place but nobody is there. Drive past the gas station he saw Timothy Hutton, the current boyfriend of Maria.

He is here to let Johnny sign the divorce paper. Johnny think he is behind all this. John call Johnny to meet at the lake. He reach there and saw the dead bodies of the neighbor and Charles, then he fainted.

Awaken, John appear and demand to see the magazine. If it is truth, John will surrender. Johnny went to the post office to collect the magazine send by the publisher. Maria want to end it fast and so decide to go find Johnny sign the papers.

Timothy later on also follow. The pages of his story are missing from the mag. Johnny went crazy and talk to his imagine image. When he put on the hat, it is reveal John character is also created by him, his alter ego.

Maria reach the cabin and is pursue by the crazy Johnny. He kills Timothy, Maria and is also the one killing the others. The sheriff know he is the one but don't have evidence. Warn him to do shopping elsewhere and not to the town where he make everyone afraid.

Through the secret window, there's a secret garden. I think that could be where the bodies lies.
