Review of Secret Window (2004) by Lazara C — 15 Jun 2011
David Koepp is an ordinarily competent and effective filmmaker but sadly goes a bit amateur on this almost throw-away Stephen King Jekyll and Hyde story. It captures the King atmosphere in times of boredom and marital squabbles but sadly ends up looking ridiculous when the thriller aspect needs to emerge (such as the moment where a shocked Johnny Depp stares at a squirrell before fainting).
Some of the tension is palpable but mostly absurdly cartoonish with an unpleasant edge to it.
