Review of Second Life (2009) by Nadia D — 15 Jan 2010
There isn't a part of this script that can be considered original. Overuse of voice over, have these people not learnt the basics of filmmaking?!
Speaking a fair amount of languages doesn't replace the lack of deepness, or diversity of characters, neither the poor dialogue. The whole thing was a melodrama, and it didn't feel real for even a second.
Camera movements gave me a headache throughout most of the film. And way too much money spent on the opening scene (?!) what for? To show that Portugal is beautiful from above?! The rest of the film doesn't do justice to the first shots.
Main actor was bad, and the others are nothing but well known faces. To be fair their parts were pretty much the same. Do not want to talk about Ruy de Carvalho, wtf was that?! And Nicolau Breyner playing a blind Italian?! Really!
Still don't understand why they didn't cast foreign actors to play foreign characters, and instead of having a foreign play the lead, I would've enjoyed this film much more if it was Jose Wallenstein playing it, without of 99% the voice over obviously...
By the way the Fatima Lopes photo in this page shows the wrong Fatima Lopes!! Guess that's ok... No one was really paying attention to her anyway. Everyone was hypnotised by boobs! Boobs everywhere! What a great film! o.O.
