Review of Scream 3 (2000) by Richard L — 08 Jan 2012
What is left from the living cast of Scream 2 returns in an horror movie with satirical comedic inflections instead of an horror comedy, with a strong opening and some surprises. It's better than the second movie of the series because the jokes, cameos and symbolism (e.
g. reverse actor/real-life duality in Scream 3 instead of a dramatization of the "the murderer may be any one of them" in Scream 2) are generally subtler and do not wash away character development.
There are a few cheap tricks that feel out of place, though, but in general it's worth it.
