Review of Scream 3 (2000) by Phoenix_Prjct — 01 Feb 2023
Final Thoughts:
Scream 3 is an odd one for me. A fun, high-quality slasher to be sure, but for the first half I found it difficult to tell the goofiness from the satirical (or if it was just failing at the satirical and becoming goofy). Travelling threads it’s done better, the film does come together in its latter half with twists and turns bolstered by decent continuity. At this point, only Neve, Courtney, and David stand out as the richest cast members. The supporting cast doesn’t do a bad job, but their development doesn’t exist and, when comparing it to the iconic first film, it’s painfully obvious they’re there as mere cannon fodder. Straying from its (surprisingly) humorous tone, Scream 3 touches upon abuse, predominantly against women, within the entertainment industry. I say touched because, and chalk it up to rewatching the film with a modern lens, it had the potential to say something. Instead, while vilified, it’s sadly shrugged off. An evil norm that makes you wonder just how many men and women are suffering in silence to this day. For the full review and more posts like it, visit my site: https://thephoenixprjct.
