Review of Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood (2014) by David G — 28 Jun 2016
Oh my goodness my wife and I watched this movie last night and we can't stop talking about it! Okay so I'm trying not to spoil too much here but it's a story about three young men who are planning to spend the summer as members of the Madison Scouts drum and bugle Corps.
Each of them has a very different role that they're setting out to play with the corps. One of them is a first-year horn player, another getting ready to March his last year with the color guard and the last is a seasoned veteran of the Drumline who wins the coveted position as Center snare, a position that comes with a lot of respect but also a ton of responsibility and pressure.
Let's just say that one of them does not make it through the season. There are excerpts from the Scouts 2012 show and many vignettes that includes interviews with the staff and other members. But most of all this is a story about how the corpos together as a family even when some stumble.
And in the end they pull off the performance of a lifetime. It really highlights the emotional highs and lows RV Drum Corps season and the challenges that members and their families face from the extraordinary commitment of time and energy.
And it gives you a healthy respect for what it takes to put a program like this together. Do yourself a favor and check out Scouts Honor.
