Review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) by Adriano V — 10 Apr 2014
"TO GET THE HOT GIRL, HE MUST DEFEAT HER SEVEN EVIL EXES".
- 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' is a 2010 comedy by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), based upon the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley. I like the idea: a guy needing to fight 7 exes in order to get the girl of his dreams. Dipped in a Wright sauce, the movie is loaded with good humor and spectacular twists. Although I loved the comic reference, I do feel it could have been better. The movie is good, but it could have been brilliant. Starring Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Final Destination 3, Live Free or Die hard), Kieran Culkin (Home Alone), Anna Kendrick (Twilight Saga, Pitch Perfect) and Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Captain America: The First Avenger). Would you fight for the woman of your dreams?
22 year-old Scott Pilgrim (Cera) is the bass guitarist of the band Sex Bob-omb, shares a apartment with his gay best friend Wallace (Culkin) and avoids the meddling of his younger sister Stacey (Kendrick) in his love life. Although Scott is dating a 17 year-old Chinese high school girl names Knives, he becomes obsessed when seeing the mysterious delivery girl Ramona (Winstead). After some time he is able to go on a date with Ramona, and decides to ditch Knives. But during a battle of bands, where he needs to go on stage with Sex Bob-omb, Scott gets attacked by a guy named Matthew Platel, who used to date Ramona. In order to win Ramona's heart, Scott will have to defeat all 7 of her evil Exes, who formed an alliance. Can he do it?
