Review of Schindler's List (1993) by Tom O — 10 Jan 2015
In Schindler's List, Steven Spielberg accomplished the impossible: he wrapped his arms (and ours) a crime of imaginable size, and made it real through the story of one man and the handful of Jews he saved, without losing a sense of the enormous tragedy happening all around them.
Perhaps more impressive than anything else, Spielberg avoids a surfeit of outrage or despair without falling into stoicism or detachment. Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, and Ralph Fiennes all deserved Oscars for their portrayals; Fiennes especially.
