Review of Scent of a Woman (1992) by Lynda M — 28 Oct 2009
It is rare that you like a film so much, yet feel it could have been considerably better. Martin Brest used too many pointless scenes and characters, some quite long, and if you dont like Pacino or the character he is playing, well get used to it as when he arrives , he in almost every second of the rest of the extra 200 minutes of the film.
The core is the relationship between the boy and suicidal ex soldier, and it should have been left to just that, in a good 100 minute character study. Nevertheless the relationship is rich and the bond makes the journey worth the full length of it. Shoot the editor.
