Review of Scarface (1932) by Erik H — 23 Nov 2014
Why the hell does anyone idolize tony montana or his lifestyle or his rags-to-riches experience or whatever? he's great and crazy and insane and pushy and gets things done, but usually the wrong things entirely.
and then he digs himself out of awfully deep holes. and he's also really mean and possessive. the whole movie was a lot more subtle than I was expecting, tbqh. the three hours zoomed by like a cocaine-fueled race car.
there are a few scenes that bugged me a bit, but montana is so damned capricious that consistency really doesn't matter at all. this movie is just him doing stuff and then doing more stuff until his life runs out.
and that's a very nice thing.
