Review of Scarface (1932) by Andres S — 27 Aug 2017
Wolf of Wall Street eat your heart out - Scarface delivers essentially the same story (and runtime) but with, what I feel, is a far more appropriate tone. It's dark, and it's often scary, with De Palma bringing over some of the elements he displayed in Carrie to some creepy moments of Tony Montana losing his mind.
This film is beautiful, its script is sharp as a tack, and the camera + art direction are lush as all hell. Scarface is a long sit, but it's absolutely never boring, and completely satisfying by the end of its Greco-Roman tragedy story.
